The photo below clearly shows the two sets of railway cottages on the north side of the line either side of the Pelton Lane bridge.
The two photos below were taken from the end of the bridge, the first, looking towards the site of the grey cottages in the left of the photo above and the second looking towards the site of the brick built cottages. As with most things, there is no indication at all that the cottages were ever there…
I’m 46 and cant ever remember them being there, perhaps historic imagery on Google Earth might narrow ig down to when they were demolished
There in September 1966 and gone by June 1971 so they were demolished sometime in that 5 year period.
I lived at 8 Railway Cottages which was the middle one of the row of three from 1947 till 1963 . My first job at 15 was a Stella Gill , great times, unfortunately all gone now.
Good morning Jim
I am on doing my family tree and found out that my grandfather and his family lived in 8 Railway Cottages, Pelaw, Chester Le Street at the beginning of the 1900’s. He was born in 1902 and lived here with the family. I don’t have much history on the house but we have traced our family back to 1700’s to date. I don’t know if you will pick this up, but if you do, I would be very interested in hearing more about the history of these cottages, especially number 8.
