I read that around 1973 when the blast furnaces at Consett were being rebuilt that they ran molten iron ore trains from Teeside to Consett to use the rolling Mills. They were class 37 hauled torpedo wagons full of molten iron.

They ran in 1968 and again in 1976 but I’d not heard of any in 1973, I have some photos here:
