I’ve added a new page with some photos, from Peter Singlehurst, of Oxhill on the outskirts of Stanley.

These pictures will be from the first half of the 1970’s, since the class 37 bears a correct headcode for a local trip working. The use of headcodes was discontinued from 1/1/76.
Morrison Busty Colliery closed on Saturday 06 October 1973, and although I cannot source an exact closure date for the Oxhill branch, it would have been shortly afterwards, as it was by then the branches only source of traffic. On this basis, the pictures would have been taken in Autumn 1973 at the very latest.
The branch was shown as out of use in the Supplement to the Northern Area Sectional Appendix dated 08 February 1975.
In 1973, Derwentside District Council and BR considered proposals to modernise the crossing by replacing the gates with barriers, but this was abandoned when the colliery closure was announced.

Great photos by Peter.
