Tom, the tunnel was filled in as where the “cuttings” the railway went through, then everything was levelled.
I have the actual location of the tunnel under the steel plant, and the tunnel at Blackhill mapped as part of the digital mapping project where doing on the History of Consett Steelworks group on Facebook.
Superb photos Roy , Do you happen to know if that tunnel was filled in or just capped at both ends. Cheers

Thanks for the reply Shawty – must have been a huge job, assuming the tunnel roof and lining was concrete .
Is it possible to access the mapping project to get a copy of the map for the location of this tunnel ?
Many thanks
Tom
