Me and a mate used to sit on the bridge in the first photo and take the numbers of the trains that passed us.
It was a time when the 4 tracks were still in situ from the dog track all the way to Tyne Yard, so we saw plenty of classes of loco, both freight and passenger.
Passing on the train every couple of weeks now, I see they’ve replaced the steel deck of the bridge with a narrower deck for the cyclists and walkers.

The whole bridge was replaced by the current footbridge as part of the East Coast electrification works back in the last 80s/early 90s.
